These are my Christmas declutter and organiser top tips on what you can do now to have a more relaxed and more fun Christmas. The secret here is not to leave it until the last minute.
1. Sorting out in your fridge freezer and pantry.
Go through bottles and jars, check the use by date and remove anything which is out of date.
Also this may be a good time to jazz up a few recipes and use up a few ingredients for that Christmas declutter
2. Check out any bedrooms you may be using to host guests.
This can be easily done way in advance. Simply look at what can be moved out or what furniture could be re-arranged.
Also this would be a good time to put clean fresh sheets on the beds and have a general clean up and a Christmas declutter in your guests wardrobes as well.
3. Start your shopping early
Start your shopping early for your presents your wrapping paper your gift tags your Christmas cards. It may sound obvious but simply creating a list of what you have to get will make you organised.
4. Organise and declutter your children’s existing toys.
Look at toys which they no longer play with and arrange to get these to a charity shop so they could re-sell to someone else.
This also gives you a chance to clear out and arrange toy boxes or wardrobes that children use and will make space for their new toys.
5. Online shopping.
Leave plenty of time to make sure you have received everything.
If you miss a delivery you may have to go to the delivery depot to pick the item up. You don’t want to be doing that on Christmas Eve.
Also check the delivery dates when you place the item. Make sure they have the item in stock and you can have it delivered in a couple of days or so.
Also keep in mind food delivery dates, especially fresh item dates.
6. Shop around.
A lot of butchers are no online and purchasing one of their Christmas frozen or fresh hampers can be a lot cheaper and much better produce from a professional butcher, than a supermarket.
Most of these butchers will have a delivery option as well. Just make sure you’re aware of delivery dates and order in advance if need be.
7. Christmas declutter can include your Christmas decorations as well.
Spend some time and organise these into boxes and tins.
If you are purchasing new, get some large plastic boxes to store them in after Christmas and label them to make it easier for next year
Make sure you declutter the area of your loft if you store your Christmas decorations there. Organising where your decorations will go and make adequate space will help you in the long run.
8. The Christmas meal.
This can take some organising. What I do is write down timings of various meats and what goes in the oven and when.
What you will find is that some food can be made in advance and stored in the fridge. Decluttering your fridge and freezer will help. (See the first point of this post.)
Make sure you chop and prepare you vegetables the night before. Mot could be stored in water in pans, waiting to be cooked.
9. Organise your table.
Prior to the meal organising the table by making sure you have tablecloths and napkins.
Again, going through a Christmas declutter of your linen will ensure you have tablecloths and napkins prior to Christmas day. Do this way in advance, so you need to buy anything you can.
